The Black Hawk College softball team is on the upswing, logging the most wins since 2014 and finishing the 2022 season second in the Arrowhead Conference.
“This year’s team set a new standard for what we are capable of doing and how we want our program to be,” said first-year head coach Tarah Rayos.
“These ladies have exceeded a lot of expectations on the field, and I am excited to see how we build in years to come,” she said.
The 2022 squad posted the best Braves team batting average since 2013 (.351) and the most home runs since 2014 (31). They were 13-7 in the Arrowhead Conference and 25-23 overall in the regular season.
The Braves also hosted two Region IV Quarterfinal games, had three players named to All-Region teams and two named to the All-Conference Team.
Region IV All-Region 1st Team:
- Dawsyn Hartman – infielder – Geneseo H.S. (IL)
Region IV All-Region 2nd Team:

“Every single person brought something different to the table and helped us to be successful,” Rayos said. “These student-athletes did so much more than they even know.
“I am extremely proud of our steps forward, as it takes a village to succeed,” she said.
