Dillon Sheiss of Larwill, IN, is the new student trustee on the Black Hawk College Board of Trustees. He was seated at the board’s May 3, 2021, meeting and will serve until April 2022.
“I hope to be a valuable asset to the board meetings, working diligently with everyone in place,” he said.
Sheiss, who attends the East Campus, was elected by his peers to represent them on the board. He is pursuing an Associate in Science – Ag Transfer degree focusing on animal science and is a member of the Black Hawk College Livestock Judging Team.
After completing his associate degree, Sheiss plans to transfer to a four-year school to earn a bachelor’s degree then return to Indiana to take over his family’s farm. He also hopes to grow his show pig and show cattle businesses, help coach a collegiate or intercollegiate livestock judging team, and judge livestock shows across the United States.
At Columbia City (IN) High School, he was a member of FFA and the livestock judging team, played basketball, and participated in Leadership Whitley County, a servant leader-based class.
He also volunteered to serve meals to those in need, made tie blankets for a homeless shelter, worked as an advisor at a boys basketball camp, helped coach the high school livestock judging team, helped with landscaping in 4-H, and volunteered with the FFA program.
