Terrance Gray, Michael Staub and Jennifer Schmidt
Three Black Hawk College employees recently received the Golden Apple Award from the college’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter at the Quad-Cities Campus.
During the honor society’s Spring 2024 Induction Ceremony, the Golden Apple Award was presented to:
- Terrance Gray, art instructor – nominated by Ryker O’Neil
- Jennifer Schmidt, educational advisor and success coach – nominated by Amber Schlue
- Michael Staub, assistant professor of psychology – nominated by Ella Olson
Each fall and spring semester, PTK students at the Quad-Cities Campus are asked to recommend faculty or staff members for the Golden Apple Award.
About the recipients
Terrance Gray
“Terrance has been nothing but supportive in my path to starting my career and has aided me in bettering my craft as well as helping with me with opportunities to help prepare me for my career,” Ryker O’Neil said. “He truly wants what’s best for all of his students.”
Jennifer Schmidt
“Jen is an amazing advisor who has given me such knowledge and courage to move forward with my college education,” Amber Schlue said. As Schlue’s advisor for her first year at Black Hawk College, Schmidt was a “great first fit, and she is excellent at what she does.”
Michael Staub
Ella Olson has taken three classes with Staub and would take all of his courses if she could. “He clearly loves what he does, which makes his classes so much more enjoyable” and she “walks away from his classes actually learning and retaining the information that I was just taught.”
