Bookstore FAQ

What is digital access?

Digital Access, also referred to as DDA or IA, provides immediate access to class content before the first day of class – at a reduced cost. This is a program used in conjunction with Black Hawk College, VitalSource and textbook publishers to assure you receive the highest quality content at a discount. If a course uses DDA, you are automatically opted into the materials when enrolled in the class.

Are there different types of digital access?

Yes! DDA can refer to two different types of online content:

  • A DDA that is only an e-book. This means you have access to an online version of the book required for your class. This book is offered at a significant discount, compared to print versions.
  • A DDA that is courseware. This means you have access to an online version of the book required for your class plus built-in assignments, quizzes or other materials your instructor deems important.

How do I know if a class I am enrolled in uses DDA?

Please visit the bookstore’s website to look up your book list. If the class requires a DDA, it will be listed as “DDA Required” and the price will be shown.

When will I be charged for the materials?

If you do not opt-out of the materials before the deadline, a charge will be placed on the student’s account. The opt-out deadline will be listed on your DDA welcome email, as well as on the bookstore’s website.

If you have questions about paying for a charge on your student account, please contact the Bursars’ office.

What if I have more questions about digital access?

If you have additional questions about digital access, please visit the bookstore’s website and scroll through the “Digital Access” tabs. Here, you can find information about opting out, how to access your materials, and more.

What payment methods do you accept in-store?

The bookstore accepts cash, checks (with a student ID #), debit and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Tap to Pay options). We also accept financial aid and approved third-party vouchers.

If I have financial aid, can I use it in the bookstore?

If you have financial aid, you are able to use it in the bookstore at the beginning of each semester. You can find the SFA dates here. You need your student ID to use financial aid in the bookstore. Your student ID can be found on myBHC.

Can I use financial aid on more than books?

Yes! You can use financial aid for almost anything we carry in-store, including gifts, supplies, and clothing. Financial aid cannot be used to purchase food or drink.

What if I have additional questions about financial aid?

If you have specific questions about your financial aid, please contact Financial Aid.
