On Oct. 27, 2016, Black Hawk College celebrated the opening of the college’s new Veterinary Sciences Center at the East Campus with a gauze ribbon-cutting and open house.

The one-story facility on the west side of campus opened in August 2016. It consists of a main building with a teaching hospital, auditorium, classroom, two labs, large animal room, conference room, faculty offices, storage and support spaces and a detached animal ward with separate dog and cat sleeping and play areas and an outdoor play area.

The center is home to two new programs — the one-year Veterinary Assisting Certificate that began in Fall 2016 and the two-year Veterinary Technology Associate in Applied Science that will begin in Fall 2017.

Black Hawk College veterinary programs are taught by veterinarians, certified veterinary technicians and specialists in the field. There also are opportunities to work with animals on-site and gain clinical experience.

The $7.85 million project also included a ring road – a new west entry and drive needed to access the center and support future expansion of facilities on the East Campus.
