April is Community College Month, and we’re celebrating Black Hawk College by sharing what we do! No matter where you are in life, we have something to offer you. Our mission is to enrich the community by providing the environment and educational resources for individuals to become lifelong learners.
Adult Education
If you did not graduate from high school or if you need help learning English, we are here to help you through our Adult Education programs. We offer GED® and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs at no cost to learners who qualify. These programs help students gain the skills they need to pursue employment, training and postsecondary education.
Transfer Programs
If you want to earn a two-year degree and then transfer to a four-year college or university, we have great Transfer Programs to explore. Select the associate degree that is right for you. You can even earn an Associate in Arts completely online. Transfer agreements and guides can help you decide what path is best for you. You’ll be able to finish general education and foundation courses for your future major at Black Hawk and then transfer to your four-year institution ready to go.
Career Programs
Know what field you want to work in? Whether you are preparing for your first job after high school or are you looking for a career change, we have Career Programs you should check out. Explore certificates and Associate in Applied Science degrees in health care, agriculture, business, computer technology and more. Career programs allow students to prepare for a career path quickly, usually in two years or less.
Professional development
Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) and the Business Training Center both can help you gain professional skills or enhance existing ones. PaCE has short-term career programs and continuing education credits opportunities. Through the Business Training Center, we offer learning opportunities and specialized training for both businesses and individuals.
Fun activities
PaCE is also great to check out if you want to try something new or spend time on hobbies you love, no matter what your age. Art, crafts, language and technology are just a few PaCE class subjects. We have youth programs as well as a Lifelong Learners Program, designed for those 55 years and older. In addition to PaCE offerings, we hold CommUniversity in February. There are opportunities for people of any age to learn something new at Black Hawk College.
Community College Month, or #CCMonth, is coordinated by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).
