The Black Hawk College men’s soccer team made history Sept. 16, 2021, with a 2-1 win over McHenry County College. It was the first win for the BHC men’s and women’s soccer program, which began competing only one month earlier.
“Beyond proud of these guys!” said Charlie Ochoa, the Braves’ first-ever men’s soccer head coach. “They fought to the last minute and left it all on the field.
“First win in program history and many more to come!” he said.
The college announced in February 2020 that it was starting a men’s and women’s soccer program thanks to a generous donation from alumni Bob and Blenda Ontiveros. Both teams began competing in August 2021.
“Congrats to Coach Ochoa and BHC men’s soccer on the first victory in BHC program history! This has been 13 months in the making,” said Arnie Chavera, athletic director.
Abbie Metz coaches the new women’s soccer team and Chavera said, “Coach Metz’s day is coming soon!”
Making the first program win even better – it was a home game for the Braves.
Chavera said he was thrilled to see members of the BHC softball, women’s basketball and women’s soccer teams at the game supporting their fellow student-athletes.
