She’s coached high school soccer teams to five state championships since 2016 and been named Coach of the Year at the district, conference, state and national level.
Now Elizabeth Maus is bringing her winning ways to Black Hawk College as the new women’s soccer head coach.
“I am eager to watch her build this program and make it a thriving destination for our local high school talent,” said Arnie Chavera, BHC athletic director.
“I am confident that she will make an immediate impact,” he said.
Maus has led the Assumption (Davenport, IA) High School girls soccer team since 2016, and before that was the school’s assistant coach for two years. Under her leadership, Assumption won state championships in 2016-19 and 2021, and the Lady Knights were the state runner-up in 2022.
She hopes to have the same kind of success at Black Hawk College.
“I welcome the opportunity to build a winning program,” she said. “I recognize it takes time and dedication to make that a reality. Each practice, each game serves as an opportunity to grow.”
Maus believes that performance starts in the classroom and directly correlates with success on the field.
“The student-first mentality is at the center of my coaching philosophy,” she said. “It is my priority to cultivate the whole person within each of my athletes – academically, emotionally and athletically.”
Maus is passionate about soccer – she’s been playing since kindergarten. Not only does she know how to win as a coach, she knows how to win as a student-athlete. From 1999-2003 she played soccer at Assumption and was part of two state championship teams.
At the collegiate level, she played for two years at Grand View College in Des Moines then two years at St. Ambrose University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, both in criminal justice.
