Congratulations to the Quad-Cities Campus chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society for bringing home three regional awards!
At the 2024 PTK Illinois Regional Convention and Honors Institute, the chapter was recognized for several accomplishments.
Two members received individual awards:
- Michelle Frerich of Moline, vice president of scholarship – Leader of Distinction Award
- Akos Tiwa of Moline, vice president of leadership – Illinois Region Spirit Award
The chapter won first place in the Regional Yearbook/Scrapbook Competition.
The chapter also was awarded the society’s highest status, Five Star, and received the Seal of Ongoing Achievement since this was the chapter’s third year at the Five Star level.
The Five Star Chapter Plan engages chapters in PTK programs and celebrates their accomplishments. It outlines 10 essentials to creating an engaged chapter and organizes them into themed categories, or “stars.”
Chapters select the stars they wish to pursue and complete the star requirements throughout the calendar year. At the end of the year, chapters earn recognition for the number of stars completed.
Outgoing chapter officer Ashton Woulf of Geneseo, incoming officers Merveille Assiobo-Tipoh of Silvis and Mi Chi Ku of East Moline, and lead contact advisor Nicole Banks also attended the convention in Springfield.
Phi Theta Kappa is recognized as the official honor society for community colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges.
