The Black Hawk College Braves men’s basketball team wrapped up a winning season with a conference championship, a conference player of the year with three players named to all-conference teams, and Coach of the Year honors for Kannon Burrage.
“I thought the 2024-25 season was a great building year and we laid the foundation of what’s to come at Black Hawk” said Burrage, who is in his fourth year as the Braves’ head coach.
“I’m very proud of my student-athletes on and off the court,” he said.
Three Braves men’s basketball players were named to NJCAA Region 4 Arrowhead Conference All-Conference Teams.
1st Team
- Co-Player of the Year – Stephen Reed #5 – sophomore guard from Milwaukee, WI
- Lovre Stanović #20 – sophomore wing from Zadar, Croatia
2nd Team
- Dion Doyle #10 – freshman forward from Macomb, IL
The Braves clinched the Arrowhead Conference Championship on Feb. 18 with a 68-59 win over Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby.
On Feb. 27, they travelled to Glen Ellyn to play the College of DuPage in the first round of the Region 4, Division II tournament. A final score of 69-59 advanced the Braves to the next round.
The Brave’s final game of the season was March 2 with a 64-72 loss to Bryant and Stratton College in the second round of the Region 4 tournament. The semifinals loss ended the Braves’ nine-game winning streak that started Jan. 29.
For the 2024-25 season, the Braves improved upon their last two seasons, going 17-14 with a home record of 11-4. In Region 4 play, they were 12-9 with an Arrowhead Conference record of 5-1.
In October 2024, Arrowhead Conference Coach of the Year Kannon Burrage and Amara Burrage – his wife and assistant coach – were featured in the video “Mr. and Mrs. Coach” by NW Illinois FCA.
On March 24, 2025, Kannon Burrage will coach the Illinois boys’ team in the Pepsi Illinois-Iowa Senior All-Star basketball games at Augustana College.
