Coach Logan Frye and the BHC Braves 2024-25 Arrowhead Conference Championship team
The Black Hawk College Braves women’s basketball team closed out a stellar 2024-25 season with a 23-9 record, their fourth conference championship in five years, Region 4 runner-up and a Region 4 Player of the Year.
It also was a milestone year for head coach Logan Frye – most overall wins of any team during his tenure, his 100th career win and fourth 20-win campaign.
The Braves won the Arrowhead Conference with a 7-1 conference record. From Jan. 23 through March 1, they were 14-1 overall. Their final game of the season was March 8 with a 70-81 loss to Rock Valley College in the Region 4 tournament finals.
The Braves’ high-powered offense ranked in the Top 20 nationally in total points scored (2,464) and points per game (77.0).
For perimeter shooting, the Braves finished in the Top 10 for both three-pointers made and attempted. Kaylie Pena led the charge with 97 made threes, followed by Sydney Adamson (67) and Ella Garrett (62).
Three Braves were named to Arrowhead Conference All-Conference Teams.
1st Team All-Conference
- Andrea Lopreato #3 – sophomore guard/forward from Mt. Pleasant, IA
- Meghanne Freehill #23 – sophomore guard from Canton, IL
2nd Team All-Conference
- Sydney Adamson #2 – sophomore guard from Milan, IL
Additional accolades for Lopreato included:
- Region 4 Player of the Year
- All-American nominee for NJCAA Division II
- 1st in Region 4 and 4th in Division II in scoring (697 points)
- Scored her 1,000th career point and finished with 1,120 career points, the most in program history.
Even with just eight players, the Braves proved their strength and depth – seven of their nine losses were to nationally ranked opponents.
Frye had nothing but praise for his unified group of eight.
“These young ladies showed up every day, believed in the vision and let us coach them,” he said. “Their ability to regroup and stay focused throughout the year was a testament to their character and determination.”
